The Stanford GSB Chapter of Hong Kong welcomed to a breakfast talk by Michelle Guthrie, Director, Strategic Business Development, Asia Pacific, Google and one of Asia’s most experienced women in internet/media (please see Speaker’s Bio, below). We are delighted that Michelle was able to spend so much of her time with Chapter members and to have shared her insights with us.

Speaker’s Bio: Michelle Guthrie

Michelle Guthrie is responsible for Google’s partnerships and business development in Asia and has been at the crossroads of new media/traditional media for much of her career. In addition to her role at Google, Michelle sits on the board of Metro International SA, the largest international newspaper with over 100 editions in 19 countries, globally, and has been recognized at the World Economic Forum (Davos) as a Young Global Leader. Prior joining Google, Michelle was a Managing Director of Providence Equity Partners, the world’s largest telecoms media and technology-focused private equity group. Earlier, Michelle was CEO of STAR TV, Asia’s leading pan-regional broadcaster, with over 60 television services in 9 languages broadcasting to over 300 million viewers across Asia.

Michelle began her career as a lawyer in Sydney, following which she was with FOXTEL in Australia and BSkyB in the UK. In her career, Michelle has served on more than 25 listed and privately-held company boards and, in the non-profit sector, is a Director of Plan International Hong Kong. Plan works in 50 developing countries to promote child rights and lift millions of children out of poverty. She holds a BA and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Sydney. Michelle was born in Sydney and has lived/worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Australia.
