Event Details:

For 2014’s first “Stanford: Business Behind the Scenes” event, GSB alumnus Deputy Chairman Francis Lui and his senior management team have generously agreed to host an insider’s visit on one of the world’s most successful gaming companies, Galaxy Entertainment Limited, with a tour of its groundbreaking flagship property, Galaxy Macau, located in Cotai, Macau.

With a market cap of USD 31 billion, and roughly 20% Macau market share overall, Galaxy is one of the world’s largest gaming companies. Galaxy Macau, in turn, is the single largest casino (as measured by revenues) in the city.

Galaxy’s success has come through leadership, vision and by ignoring “conventional gaming wisdom”. Rather than rushing into Cotai, it built a smaller, peninsula Macau property first, learning lessons from the market and its competitors.  Rather than rush to build Vegas-style facilities, it deliberately explored how to create an explicitly Chinese and Asian-customer oriented facility that would give its guests experiences uniquely unavailable anywhere else. The result, simply put is one of Macau’s most innovative and successful properties.

The Behind the Scenes visit is a unique opportunity to study a Macau pioneer and to hear from Francis Lui and his senior management team first hand, whose innovation, insights and conviction redefined the Macau gaming, leisure, retail and hospitality experience.

As part of the Chapter’s Mission Statement on life-long learning, the Business Behind the Scenes Program was initiated to give our Membership rare insights on how leading organizations operate from the inside, combining an on-site tour with the opportunity during the same to have engaged dialogue with senior management.
