An Off the Record Talk on the Key Challenges Facing the HKMA & Hong Kong’s Role as a Financial Center

The Stanford GSB Chapter of Hong Kong is pleased to invite you to a private off-the-record breakfast event with Peter Pang, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA, sharing his thoughts on the HKMA’s key challenges and opportunities.

The HKMA’s responsibilities for Hong Kong’s economic security are substantial.  Its mandate, inter alia, covers not only the stability and integrity of the overall financial system of the SAR, but also maintenance of its currency stability within the Linked Exchange Rate System and responsibility for maintaining Hong Kong’s overall status as a leading international financial centre. In such capacity, the HKMA’s role is not just to react, but to anticipate the key strategic challenges facing Hong Kong, and to proactively take the right course of actions to maintain its role as a leading financial centre. Speaker’s Bio: Peter Pang, Deputy Chief Executive, Hong Kong Monetary Authority

Peter Pang, a member of the Stanford GSB Chapter of HK Advisory Board, has been Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA since July 2004 and is responsible for monetary management, financial infrastructure and research. Mr Pang first joined the HKMA as Executive Director (Banking Policy) in 1994 and was then appointed Executive Director (Monetary Policy and Markets) in 1996. From 1997 to 2004, Mr Pang was seconded to the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation and served as CEO of the same.

Mr Pang started his civil service career in 1979 as an Administrative Officer and has served as Assistant Director General of Trade and Assistant Commissioner of Banking before joining the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in 1994.  Mr Pang joined the HKMA as Executive Director (Banking Policy) in 1994 and was appointed as Executive Director (Monetary Policy and Markets) in 1996.

Mr Pang graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1979 and obtained a Master in Management from Stanford University in 1993.
